Back home

Like last week, this week was a bit disrupted by travels. However I still feel like I’ve made some solid progress and pulled the trigger on a few important issues. I finally made it back to Glasgow and I’m looking forward to a couple of productive weeks before heading home to Denmark for Christmas.

Most importantly I continued working on the frontend facing app. This required a lot of UI thinking. I’m not bringing in a UI designer at this point, so I’m just trying to keep things as simple as possible with Bootstrap and a few utility CSS classes. As I mentioned last week, the UI needs to be extremely intuitive if WordPress developers are to adopt Branch into their workflows. It’s basically a part of my mission to make CI/CD more accessible to WordPress developers.

As I’m spending my time on the frontend, it’s super nice to have my buddy Christian, whom I introduced last week, help me out with the build server. His help is really appreciated at this point. All I need to make sure is that I keep up with everything he builds as I will have to take it over at one point. We’ve had some good conversations this week about the architecture and infrastructure behind Branch.

Finally I’ve talked to a few logo designers and slowly started the process. I’m finding that I’m really needing a logo. I know some people will disagree with this, but for me it’s important. I’m working pretty publicly with Branch, which is of cause also a marketing strategy. I feel like it’s time to attach a brand and logo to all this marketing I’m engaging in.

Like the past few weeks I continued with the calls this week, though I’m starting to think it’s time for me to focus 90% of my time on the development until I have something for people to try. Most excitingly I had a call with Jason Murray from Design33 in Edinburgh, who agreed to let me pop by their office next week. This will be a great opportunity for me to learn more about their work and what they need from a tool like Branch.

I also had another call with a fellow founder who’s product has some pretty obvious synergies with Branch. We were both excited about the opportunities for referring customers to one another and see how we can help each other out. I love these kinds of conversations.

I’ve also slowly started to have a few conversations with some “money people”. I’m not sure yet if funding is the way to go for Branch, but it doesn’t hurt to have these conversations. Some of the people I’ve talked to are also bringing a lot more than just money to the table, which is more exciting to me.

And that was pretty much it this week I think. 🙏

This update is going to be a short one. Most of what I’ve been up to isn’t really visible from the outside - mainly talking to users, fixing bugs, administrative work and so on. All the not-so-glamorous parts of building a software... Continue →
